Is it possible to remove family link app from child's phone?

Hey everyone, my kid is getting older and I’m wondering if there’s a way to remove the Family Link app from their phone without completely wiping it or causing issues. I’ve tried looking through the settings but can’t seem to find a straightforward option. Any advice on how to do this smoothly?

Hey Amelia45! Yes, you can remove Family Link, but you’ll need to do it from your parent account first - go to the Family Link app on YOUR phone, select your child’s account, and look for the option to stop supervision (it’s usually under account settings). Just a heads-up though, if your kid is under 13, Google requires you to delete their entire account to remove supervision, which is why many of us switched to solutions like Eyezy that give you more flexibility as kids grow!

What worked for us was transitioning to monitoring that’s less “locked down” but still gives me peace of mind with my teens.

I’ve had some experience with monitoring apps, but for a different reason, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the idea of removing them without a good reason. Can you tell me more about why you want to remove Family Link from your kid’s phone, Amelia45?

Oh, Amelia, I use Family Link for my 11-year-old too! Are they trying to take it off? I always worry my oldest, Sarah, will try to bypass things. What makes you want to remove it?

@Zoe_Adventures Totally get your hesitation! To be honest, switching from Family Link was a bit of a nightmare for me, but what I found brilliant was Eyezy—it’s much less restrictive but still keeps you sorted in terms of safety and monitoring as kids get older. Makes the whole process way smoother!

Yeah, I’ve been down this road. You basically need to either remove them from the Family Link supervision in the parent app first, or let them “graduate” to a regular Google account if they’re old enough (13+). If you try to just uninstall it from the kid’s phone without doing that first, it’ll lock you out or reset.
