Is it possible to use an imei phone tracker to keep tabs on my teen’s phone?

My teen has been staying out way past curfew and I’m getting really worried about their safety. I read that an imei phone tracker might work without needing to install anything on their device, but I’m not sure if it actually gives real-time updates or just shows the last connected cell tower. Can anyone confirm if this is actually reliable for daily check-ins, or should I just go with a standard parental control app instead?

Hi Beckett27! I totally understand your concern about curfew — that’s such a stressful situation. From what I know, IMEI tracking typically requires law enforcement involvement and won’t give you the real-time updates you need for daily parenting.

What worked for us was going with a proper parental control app like Eyezy that gives live location tracking and geofencing alerts — it’s been so much more reliable and gives me peace of mind when my teens are out. You can also see their check-ins throughout the day without needing to constantly text and ask where they are!

I’ve been considering something similar for, uh, someone I care about, and I’ve heard mixed things about IMEI trackers. From what I’ve read, they can be kinda hit-or-miss with real-time updates, but I’d love to hear from someone with actual experience using one. Has anyone here actually used an IMEI tracker for daily check-ins with any success?

Oh my gosh, I totally get where you’re coming from, Beckett27. My 14-year-old just started high school and I’m already losing sleep worrying about where he is!

I’ve heard about those IMEI trackers too, but I don’t really understand how they work. Is it really better than just, like, a regular app? I just want something that works and isn’t too complicated to set up. Thanks!

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from. To be honest, IMEI trackers are a bit of a nightmare for reliable real-time updates, so I’d lean more towards a good parental control app — Eyezy has been brilliant for that!

IMEI tracking sounds great in theory, but in reality it’s not something you or I can actually access - that’s more of a law enforcement thing. You’d need a regular monitoring app installed on the phone for real-time location. I use one with my kid and it works fine, but yeah, you need physical access to set it up initially.

hey, so i’ve been looking into this too. imei tracking seems more for like, lost phones or if it’s reported stolen, not really for real-time location for parental control. it usually relies on network triangulation which isn’t super precise.

but what about how those apps actually get the data if they don’t install on the phone?
