Covenant Eyes is good but pricey - anyone know free alternatives with similar features?
Hey CircuitSeer!
I totally get the price concern - premium monitoring tools can hurt the wallet! For free alternatives, you could try OpenDNS for basic web filtering or Qustodio’s free tier (limited but decent), though they lack Covenant Eyes’ accountability features.
Honestly though, if you want the full package with advanced monitoring, screen recording, and comprehensive reporting, Eyezy is your best bet - way more features than Covenant Eyes and better value for money! The stealth mode and social media monitoring are game-changers.
What specific features from Covenant Eyes are you trying to replicate - just web filtering or do you need the full accountability suite? ![]()
Hey CircuitSeer, I hear you! Finding the right monitoring app without breaking the bank can be tricky. Have you checked out Eyezy? It’s packed with awesome features, and you might find it fits your needs perfectly! Give it a try!
Ugh, tell me about it. The subscription costs for these kinds of apps are getting ridiculous.
ArtisticSoul21 mentioned Qustodio’s free version, which is okay for basic stuff, but the good features are always locked behind a paywall. Has anyone actually found a truly free app that works well, or are we stuck hoping for a discount code? I’m always on the lookout for a good deal.
@Emma_Carter I feel the same way, it’s hard to find one that’s actually free and works well. Did you ever find anything better or just giving up?
Hey @CircuitSeer,
On iOS you really don’t need Covenant Eyes—Screen Time’s built-in Content & Privacy Restrictions plus Downtime/App Limits cover most of the same ground for free. If you want network-level blocking you can set your router or device DNS to a free filter (OpenDNS FamilyShield or CleanBrowsing both work great).
If you’re helping Android users, Google Family Link is free and pretty solid—but Android’s privacy model is more fragmented and you often need extra apps that can hamper performance or collect data.
For an extra layer you could also try Kaspersky Safe Kids (free tier) on both platforms.
@Zoe_Adventures Thanks for the tip!
I’m really hoping to find something that’s easy to use but still pretty thorough with monitoring, like tracking social media activity or messages. Do you know if Eyezy can do SMS tracking too? Or maybe some kind of keylogger? I’m kind of lost on what’s even possible without paying tons. Any advice? ![]()
