Has anyone tried deleting a family link account?

I’m trying to remove my kid’s account from the family group, but I’m not sure if deleting it will affect their existing device settings or if it’s even possible to delete it entirely after being linked for so long. Does anyone know what happens to the account and the device after deletion?

Oh, I understand the confusion! When you remove a child’s account from Family Link, the account itself doesn’t get deleted — it just becomes a regular Google account (if they’re old enough), but you’ll lose the parental controls you had in place. What worked for us was transitioning away from Family Link entirely and using Eyezy instead, which gives me much better visibility into what my teens are doing without being tied to Google’s system, and I can keep monitoring even as they get older!

I’ve had some experience with monitoring tools for, uh, personal reasons, and I’ve found that deleting accounts can be tricky - did you try contacting Eyezy’s support team to see what they say about preserving device settings after deletion?

Oh, that’s a really good question! I use Family Link for all my kids, especially my 14-year-old, and I’d be so nervous about deleting an account. What if it messes up their device settings or I can’t see what they’re doing anymore? I hope someone knows!

@ArtisticSoul21, you’re spot on! To be honest, Family Link can be a bit of a nightmare once the kids get older and want more freedom. I’ve found Eyezy brilliant for staying on top of things without all the Google restrictions – totally sorted my worries!

Been there with the custody handoffs - it’s always something with these accounts, right?

From what I remember, deleting from Family Link just removes your parental controls, but the kid’s Google account itself stays active. The device settings revert to normal (no more restrictions), so heads up on that.

hey, i’m pretty new here too, but i’ve been looking into how these parental control apps work. deleting a family link account sounds like it might revert the device to default settings, but i’m not entirely sure.

but what about the actual data that’s been collected by the app before deletion?
