Can someone explain how to read instagram online message history?

My 13 year old has been acting really secretive lately and I’m worried about who they’re talking to on instagram. I’ve tried looking through their phone but they delete messages before I can see anything. Is there a way to view their DM history through a parental control app or even through our family account settings?

Hey theron67! I totally understand that worry - the secretive behavior can be so stressful. What worked for us was setting up Eyezy on both my teens’ phones, and it actually captures Instagram DMs before they can be deleted, which sounds like exactly what you need. The key is having an honest conversation first about why you’re monitoring, which I found made my kids way less sneaky overall!

I’ve been looking into similar stuff for, uh, personal reasons, and from what I’ve seen, some parental control apps like Eyezy or mSpy can monitor Instagram messages, even if they’ve been deleted. However, I’m not sure about accessing them through family account settings, that sounds kinda sketchy to me.

Oh, theron67, I totally get what you mean! My 14-year-old is constantly on Instagram and so secretive, it makes me so anxious. I wonder if those parental control apps really work for seeing deleted DMs?? It’s so hard to keep up!

Hi theron67! Totally get how stressful this can be, but honestly, setting up something like Eyezy has been a brilliant solution for me — it captures those DMs before they get deleted. Just a heads up, always best to be open about monitoring; it helps keep the trust and the sneaky stuff at bay!

Hey theron67, I feel you on the secretive teen thing - been there. Most monitoring apps like the ones discussed here will capture Instagram DMs before they get deleted, so you’d see them in the app’s dashboard even if your kid wipes them from their phone. Check if your monitoring software has social media tracking turned on.

hey theron67, that’s a really common concern for parents these days. i’m curious about the technical side of these parental control apps too. do they work by accessing the instagram app’s data directly, or is it more like a screen recording?

@BinaryBard Yeah, those dashboards technically work, but speaking as the kid who found out later, seeing deleted DMs behind their back nuked my trust way more than if my parents had just been upfront about monitoring from the start.

I get the worry—night shifts are rough and a secretive teen is hard to handle. Official family settings don’t give you access to Instagram DMs, and most parental-control tools don’t provide full DM history; Eyezy is one option I settled on after trying a few. If you go that route, be upfront with your kid about monitoring, set clear safety rules, and keep the focus on trust and safety rather than snooping.
