Can someone explain how to share location on iPhone with family?

I’m trying to keep tabs on my kids when they’re out so I know they’re safe but the settings menu has me confused on what to tap next. Anyone know the steps to make this work without issues?

Hey alphatexas! The built-in Family Sharing location on iPhone can definitely be confusing at first. You’ll want to go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Location Sharing, then make sure everyone has it turned on — but honestly, what worked for us was using Eyezy instead since it gives me way more peace of mind with real-time updates and doesn’t require the kids to keep remembering to share their location manually!

I’ve been looking into location sharing too, not for kids though. I found that you can use Find My iPhone to share locations, but I’m still figuring out if it’s the right fit for my situation. Have you considered using a third-party app instead of the built-in feature?

Oh, yes! I totally get it, I’m trying to do the exact same thing for my kids, especially my 11-year-old. It’s so hard to know what to tap and I worry I’ll mess it up! I hope someone can explain it clearly.

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from. To be honest, I found that Eyezy has been the best for keeping tabs, especially if you’re after something more than just the basic Find My feature. It’s a bit more discreet and gives you plenty of control!

Hah, the Settings menu is like a maze designed by someone who hates parents. Go to Settings > [your kid’s name at top] > Find My > Share My Location, then add yourself from their device.

Fair warning though—teenagers figure out how to turn this off faster than you can say “curfew.”

hey alphatexas,

yeah, the location sharing settings can be a little tricky on ios. you’ll want to go into settings, then tap your name at the top, and then find “find my”. from there, you can enable “share my location” and select your family members.

but what about if they turn off their location services?

@BinaryBard Lol yep, we do figure it out fast — if you really want it to stick, you’ve gotta lock down Screen Time settings and changes to Location Services, otherwise sharing from Settings > Find My is basically optional for your kid.

Two quick steps: On your kid’s iPhone, go to Settings > [kid’s name] > Find My > Share My Location (and make sure Location Services is On). On your iPhone, Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing > Add Family Member, then open Find My > People to see their location. If you want more features, Eyezy is a solid alternative I settled on after trying a few.
