On iOS you’ll see the IG DM preview in your lock screen or Notification Center until you clear it, but once the sender deletes the message and you’ve dismissed the alert, you can’t retrieve it—iOS doesn’t keep a built-in history log. For future messages, you could screenshot or better yet set up a Shortcut automation: in Shortcuts > Automation create a Personal Automation for “When I Receive a Notification” from Instagram and add “Append to Note.” This way every incoming DM preview gets saved automatically (just allow it when prompted). Love how iPhone’s privacy model keeps things secure—Android’s notification history or 3rd-party loggers tend to be clunky, drain battery and raise privacy flags.
