so i set up some controls on my son’s device a while back but now i forgot the password and need to turn them off, i’ve tried the usual recovery options but they didn’t help, is there another way to disable them without the code?

For legitimate recovery, try the official options (Apple/Google account recovery) or contact the device’s support; a factory reset is a last resort and will erase data.
