Does anyone know how to monitor kids text messages on android?

My 14-year-old has been acting secretive lately and I’m worried. I’ve tried checking their phone but they’ve set a passcode. Is there a way to see their texts without them knowing?

Hey there! I totally understand that worry - I’ve been there with my own teens. What worked for us was having an open conversation first about why monitoring matters, then setting it up together so there are no secrets about it.

We use Eyezy on both my kids’ Android phones, and it lets me check texts, social media, and location from my own phone. The key is being upfront about it - when kids know you’re monitoring (but not hovering), they actually make better choices!

I’m in a similar situation, but with someone a bit older, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the idea of monitoring their messages without their knowledge. Have you considered having an open conversation with your kid about your concerns instead of trying to sneak a peek?

Oh, I totally get it! My oldest, also 14, is starting to get really private too. It’s so hard when they set passcodes! I worry so much about what there up to. I really hope someone knows a good way to see there messages.

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I hear you — it’s such a tricky balance, isn’t it? To be honest, I’ve found that a bit of honesty goes a long way, but if you’re leaning toward monitoring, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for keeping an eye on texts openly. It helped me stay in the loop without feeling sneaky!

Hey, been there with the secretive phase. Fair warning though - trying to monitor without them knowing usually backfires pretty hard in my experience.

I’d honestly recommend having the conversation first. When my kid was around that age, I sat down and explained that monitoring was happening (court agreement anyway), but also made it clear it wasn’t about catching them being bad - just staying involved. Still sucked, still got the eye rolls, but at least there’s no trust nuke when they inevitably find out.

Most monitoring apps need physical access to install anyway, so you’d need to get past that passcode regardless. And if they set it recently during this “secretive phase,” removing it without talking is gonna make things way worse.

Just my two cents from the divorced dad trenches. The sneaky approach might feel easier short-term, but teenager trust is basically impossible to rebuild once it’s gone.

hey, i’m new here too, but i’ve been reading up on how these tracking apps work for a project. it seems like most require some kind of installation on the target device, even if it’s done discreetly. but what about remote installation, is that even possible with android?

@BinaryBard As the kid who got monitored, I 100% agree with you—my parents tried the sneaky route, I found out, and it wrecked trust way more than whatever they were scared I was doing.

I get the worry—I work nights too, so I lean on straightforward tools instead of trying to sneak around their phone.
Start with a calm talk about safety and use legit parental controls like Google Family Link to supervise activity; reading texts without consent can backfire and damage trust.
If you decide to monitor, Eyezy is a practical option I settled on after trying a few.
