My teen turned off their Snap location and I’m worried they might be somewhere unsafe. I tried checking the app but it just says location off. Is there any way to see it anyway?

What worked for us was having a family conversation about why we need location sharing on - safety isn’t about spying, it’s about being able to help in emergencies. We use Eyezy which tracks location independently of Snapchat’s settings, so even if they turn off Snap Map, I can still see where they are through GPS tracking. Have you talked with your teen about your safety concerns?

Look, I get the worry - been there. But if they’ve turned off their location in Snapchat, there’s no backdoor to see it. The app doesn’t log where they were before they shut it off either.
This is exactly why I use an actual phone monitoring app. Snapchat’s location sharing only works when they want it to work. A proper monitoring app tracks the phone’s GPS directly, regardless of what they do in individual apps.
Have you considered setting up something like that? Given you’re already worried enough to be asking this question, might be time for a more reliable solution than hoping they keep Snap’s location turned on.
What custody arrangement do you have? Sometimes these convos are easier when you can say “when you’re with me, monitoring app stays on.”
