My teenager recently started clearing out everything in their DMs, and I’m a bit concerned about who they might be chatting with late at night. I tried looking into downloading the account data directly through the app settings, but it seems like that only gives you the threads that are currently sitting in the inbox. Has anyone here actually found a solid workaround or method to pull up chats after they’ve already been completely wiped?
Hi benjamin666! I totally understand that concern - my teens used to do the same thing until we had a conversation about transparency. What worked for us was setting up Eyezy beforehand, which captures Instagram messages in real-time before they can be deleted, so you’re not scrambling to recover things after the fact. Unfortunately, once messages are deleted from Instagram itself, they’re pretty much gone unless you had monitoring in place ahead of time!

Oh, this sounds exactly like my 14-year-old! I worry so much about what they might be clearing. Have you tried one of those ‘monitoring apps’ people talk about, do they even work for deleted stuff…?
Oh, I totally get where you’re coming from, dear! To be honest, once messages are deleted on Instagram, it’s a bit of a nightmare to recover them without some sort of third-party tools.
