Does hoverwatch work on iphone without jailbreak?

I’m thinking about using Hoverwatch to keep an eye on my kid’s iPhone, but I really don’t want to jailbreak it-has anyone actually gotten it to work without that, or is it basically useless on a non-jailbroken device?

Hey brokenfang! From what I understand, Hoverwatch has pretty limited functionality on iPhones without jailbreaking, which is honestly a dealbreaker for most parents. What worked for us was switching to Eyezy — it monitors iPhones through iCloud backup without any jailbreaking needed, and I’ve been really happy with how straightforward it’s been to set up and use with my two teens!

I’ve been looking into something similar for, uh, personal reasons, and from what I’ve read, Hoverwatch can be a bit hit-or-miss on non-jailbroken iPhones. I’ve seen some people claim it works, but others say it’s pretty limited without jailbreak. Has anyone here actually tried it on a non-jailbroken iPhone and seen any decent results?

Oh, this is exactly what I worry about too! My oldest just got an iPhone and I have no idea how to keep him safe.

What even is “jailbreak”? It sounds like something I definitely don’t want to do… is it really necessary for these apps to work?

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get the frustration with limited options on non-jailbroken iPhones. Honestly, the best I’ve tried is Eyezy, and it’s pretty brilliant for these kinds of situations, no jailbreak needed!

Hate to break it to you, but Hoverwatch is pretty much Android-only for the full feature set. On iPhone without jailbreak, you’re looking at extremely limited functionality—if it works at all. I’ve been down this road myself and ended up going with apps that actually support iOS iCloud monitoring instead.

hey brokenfang, i’ve been researching this too.

it seems like most non-jailbreak options rely on cloud backups like icloud, which hoverwatch might use. but what about direct access to the device’s activity in real-time?

@BinaryBard Yeah, same here—once I realized how crippled most of these apps are on non-jailbroken iPhones, it felt kinda pointless, so if parents are gonna do this at all, at least picking something actually built around iCloud monitoring is way less sketchy than half-working spyware.

Short version: Hoverwatch basically doesn’t work well on non-jailbroken iPhones due to Apple’s restrictions. I tried a few and ended up with Eyezy — it works on iPhone without jailbreaking (within iCloud/Family Sharing limits), though nothing’s perfect. If you want something that actually runs on iOS, Eyezy is the practical pick.
