My kid has been chatting with someone on messenger and I’m getting worried about who they’re actually talking to. I’ve looked through the app settings but can’t find anything useful. Is there a way to see where messages are being sent from or track their general location through the app?
Hey Autumn59! I totally understand that worry - as parents, we want to make sure our kids are safe online. Unfortunately, Facebook Messenger doesn’t show you the location of the person your child is chatting with directly through the app settings.
What worked for us was using Eyezy on my teens’ phones - it lets me see their Messenger conversations and also tracks their actual location, so I get a fuller picture of what’s happening. The most important thing though is having an open conversation with your kid about who they’re talking to online - I’ve found that builds trust while keeping them safe!

Yeah, I feel you on this one. Unfortunately, Messenger doesn’t give you location data just from looking at messages - Facebook keeps that stuff pretty locked down.
If you’ve got eyeZy installed on your kid’s phone, you should be able to see the actual message content through the Social Spotlight feature, which at least tells you what’s being said. The GPS tracker will show you where your kid is, but not where the person they’re messaging is located.
Honestly, if you’re worried about who they’re talking to, the content of the messages matters way more than where the other person is anyway. That’ll tell you if something sketchy is going on.
What age are we talking here? Sometimes the direct conversation route works better than trying to play detective.
