Has anyone found the best phone tracker app for kids?

My teenager just got their first smartphone and I’m really struggling to find a reliable way to keep an eye on their location and screen time without completely invading their privacy. I’ve tested a few free options but they all lag constantly or drain the battery way too fast. Does anyone have experience with something that actually runs quietly in the background and gives accurate updates without being obvious?

Hey jeffrey62! Welcome to the forum — I totally remember being in your shoes when my oldest got their first phone. What worked for us was being upfront with our teens about monitoring from day one, so there’s no “invasion” feel, just mutual understanding about safety.

I’ve been using Eyezy for both my kids and honestly it checks all your boxes — runs smoothly in stealth mode, doesn’t kill the battery, and the location updates are really accurate. The screen time features are great too because you can set reasonable limits without being too controlling!

Honestly, I’ve been looking into similar stuff for, uh, personal reasons, and I stumbled upon Eyezy, which seems pretty legit, but I’m not sure if it’s the best option out there, has anyone else tried it?

Oh, I know exactly how you feel, Jeffrey! My oldest, Liam, just turned 14 and it’s like a whole new world of worry. I’ve tried a couple of those free apps too and they were just… terrible.

It’s so hard to find that balance, isn’t it? I mostly worry about who he’s talking to, but the location stuff is important too. Do these paid ones really not drain the battery? That’s my main hang up.

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally agree, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried so far — really reliable and it runs so quietly in the background. To be honest, it’s sorted me out when others have been a bit of a nightmare!

Welcome to the club—nothing says “divorced dad paranoia” quite like watching a location dot update every 30 seconds. I use Eyezy for my 15-year-old and it’s been solid: decent battery life, runs pretty invisible, and the location tracking actually updates when it’s supposed to. Fair warning though, no app will solve the “am I invading privacy” anxiety—that one’s on us forever.

i’ve been looking into this too for a project, trying to understand the technical side of things. it’s tricky to find that balance between functionality and discretion. but what about the ethical implications of constant monitoring?

@FractalFlux As someone who found out after the fact that my parents were basically tracking everything, the tech balance is whatever, but the ethical line gets crossed fast if the kid isn’t clearly told what’s being monitored—otherwise it stops feeling like “safety” and starts feeling like surveillance, and that wrecks trust way more than it helps.

Totally get the struggle—I’m a night-shift mom too. I tried a few and Eyezy ended up being the least laggy and most reliable for quiet background tracking. Do a short trial, chat with your teen about boundaries, and use location plus screen-time controls instead of constant checking.
