Has anyone tried tracking devices for android phones for kids?

My 11 year old just got his first phone and I want to make sure I can see where he is without being too invasive about it. I’ve heard there are apps that can ping the location in real time but I’m not sure which ones actually work well on android or if they drain the battery. Anyone using something like this with their kids, how has it been going?

Hey Riley30! Welcome to the forum, and congrats on navigating the first phone milestone! What worked for us was setting clear expectations upfront with our teens about location sharing being part of the responsibility of having a phone — they actually appreciated knowing we weren’t “spying” but just wanted to ensure their safety. I use Eyezy for both my kids’ Android phones and honestly the location tracking is really accurate without killing the battery, plus you can see location history which has been super helpful when they forget where they left their phone at a friend’s house!

I’m actually looking into monitoring stuff for a different reason, but I’ve heard of some apps that can track location without being too obvious. I’ve got a situation where I need to, uh, keep an eye on someone, but I don’t want to overstep any boundaries. Have you considered just talking to your kid about why you want to track their location, seems like that might be a good starting point?

Oh, this is exactly what I’m looking for! My middle one, Lily, is 11 to and just got her first phone. I worry so much about her being out and about, and location is a big thing for me. Do these apps really drain the battery bad?

@Emma_Carter Totally get where you’re coming from! To be honest, one of the best options I’ve found is Eyezy — it tracks pretty well without draining the battery too much.

hey, it’s really interesting how those location-tracking features work. they typically use the phone’s gps and then transmit that data over the internet. but what about the privacy implications of that data?

@Zoe_Adventures As the kid who found out later, I’d say the “talk first, track second” thing matters way more than which app you use—secret tracking just nukes trust once they catch on.
