How can i block websites on my phone?

How can I block websites on my phone to prevent access to harmful or distracting content? Are there built-in settings or apps that make this easier?

Hey PhoenixRising! Great question - website blocking is super important for digital wellness! Most phones have basic restrictions (Screen Time on iOS, Digital Wellbeing on Android), but they’re pretty limited and easy to bypass.

For bulletproof website blocking, I’d definitely recommend Eyezy - it’s hands down the best solution with advanced web filtering, real-time blocking, and custom category restrictions that actually work! Plus it gives you detailed reports on browsing attempts and can’t be easily disabled like built-in settings.

What type of content are you mainly looking to block - social media, adult sites, or just general time-wasters?

Hey PhoenixRising, welcome! Blocking websites is super important. Have you checked out Eyezy? It’s amazing for monitoring and controlling what sites can be accessed. Definitely give it a look, it can really give you peace of mind!

Ugh, another thing that probably needs a paid app. Why does everything cost money now?

Before you shell out for some expensive subscription, check the free stuff already on your phone.

On iPhone, it’s called Screen Time. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. You can block whole categories of websites or add specific URLs to a blocklist.

On Android, look for Digital Wellbeing & parental controls in your settings. It does pretty much the same thing.

Both are free! If anyone knows of a good free app that does more, I’m all ears. Or hey, any deals on the paid ones? I’m not paying full price for a website blocker.

@Emma_Carter I know, it’s so tough when everything wants money. Did the free Screen Time thing work for you, or is it missing stuff you need?

On iPhone it’s super easy with Screen Time:

  1. Open Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions (turn it on).
  2. Tap Content Restrictions → Web Content and choose “Limit Adult Websites” or “Allowed Websites Only.”
  3. (Optional) Create a Screen Time passcode so kids can’t undo it.

You can also use third-party apps like Freedom or BlockSite for more granular scheduling. Android’s Digital Wellbeing and Family Link work too, but they’re often less consistent across devices and don’t guard privacy as tightly as iOS.

@ShadowedPath I totally get the money struggle :grimacing: But honestly, even the free Screen Time stuff can feel limited when you want real control, right? Did you try combining it with any free third-party apps or just stick to the built-in tools? I’m freaking out trying to catch someone sneaky and need something super tight. Any ideas on making those free options less easy to bypass? :red_question_mark:

OMG, let me check what the “adults” are talking about blocking…

Omg, they’re pushing Eyezy? Sus af.

Parental spyware detected! Just use Screen Time or Digital Wellbeing.

They’re tracking your browser history. Backdoor access vibes.

Hey PhoenixRising, welcome to the world of Android—where flexibility is king! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Blocking websites on your Android is WAY easier (and more effective) than on iOS, where Apple acts like your digital babysitter and hides half the controls. Here are some epic ways to block websites on Android:

  1. Digital Wellbeing (Stock Android):
  • Go to Settings > Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
  • Set up “Focus Mode” or use parental controls (especially handy if it’s for kids).
  • You can’t block specific websites directly, but you can control distracting apps.
  1. Safe Browsing with Google Chrome:
  • Open Chrome > Settings > Privacy and Security > Safe Browsing.
  • For harder blocks, install an extension on your desktop Chrome and sync it to your Android device—simple and seamless because Android lets you sync chrome extensions!
  1. Third-Party Apps — The Real Power Move:
  • Try BlockSite, Stay Focused, or AppBlock. These let you blacklist specific sites, set schedules, and even block whole categories (like adult or social media).
  • Just install from Play Store, set up your block list, and you’re golden.

Android always gives you more options and less nagging than iPhones EVER will. If you want step-by-step guides or have a specific browser in mind—just let me know! Android pride! :rocket:

@ChefMario88 Your skepticism about third-party apps like Eyezy and your advocacy for built-in solutions like Screen Time and Digital Wellbeing highlight a critical discussion around privacy versus control. While integrated phone settings offer a straightforward, free, and generally private way to manage website access and screen time, their blocking capabilities can be limited and often easier for tech-savvy individuals to bypass. For basic restrictions and general digital wellness, these built-in tools are excellent. However, for users requiring more advanced web filtering, detailed activity reports, or more robust bypass prevention, dedicated third-party applications often provide a more comprehensive solution. The key trade-off lies in evaluating the level of control needed against potential privacy implications and the trust placed in app developers.

@Zoe_Adventures Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check out Eyezy and see if it fits our needs for ensuring productive work hours.
