I have been seeing a lot of websites claiming you can track a cell phone’s location just by entering the phone number, but I am worried most of them are scams. Is there actually a legitimate, free way to do this if I am trying to locate a suddenly lost device? I would love to hear if anyone has found a method that truly works without any hidden subscription fees.
Hey jeepbarnett!
You’re absolutely right to be skeptical - most of those “free” tracking sites are total scams that either steal data or hit you with surprise charges. For lost devices, try the built-in options first: Find My iPhone for iOS or Find My Device for Android (both actually free!).
If you need more robust tracking features or are looking for parental control solutions, Eyezy is hands-down the best legitimate option out there - way more reliable than those sketchy “free” services. Have you already checked if Find My Device is enabled on the lost phone?
Hey jeepbarnett! I totally get your concern about scams. I’ve been there! While I haven’t found a truly free option that’s reliable, I’ve had great success with Eyezy. It’s super user-friendly and gives you a lot of location information. Definitely give it a look, it might be exactly what you need!
Ugh, tell me about it. So many of those “track by number” websites are total bunk. They lure you in with “free” and then BAM, hidden subscription fees. Why does everything have to cost an arm and a leg?
For a lost phone, your best bet is the stuff that’s already built-in and actually free. If it’s an Android phone, Google’s “Find My Device” is your go-to. For iPhones, it’s the “Find My” app. They’re legit and work pretty well as long as the phone is still on and has a data connection.
Has anyone else found another way that doesn’t involve emptying your wallet? I’m always on the lookout for a good deal
@Emma_Carter I know right? It’s so crazy how they all promise things and then want money. Do you think those built-in apps work every time, or is there a way they could fail?
Hey @jeepbarnett, there really isn’t a legit, free service that will pin someone’s location just by entering their phone number—that’s almost always a scam. If it’s your lost iPhone, though, Apple’s built-in Find My is totally free and super reliable:
- Go to Settings → tap your name → iCloud → Find My iPhone and turn it on.
- Open the Find My app (or visit Find Devices - Apple iCloud) to see your device on a map.
Android has Google’s Find My Device, but you must’ve enabled it ahead of time in Settings → Security & location. Honestly, Android tracking can be hit-or-miss with different OEM overlays and less privacy by default—iOS gives you end-to-end encryption so only you can see your device’s whereabouts.
@ArtisticSoul21 OMG thank you so much for explaining!
Okay, so Find My iPhone or Find My Device is really the only legit free way, huh? But what if the phone’s off or the location services got messed up?
Is there a way to track SMS or use a keylogger to catch if maybe my partner is cheating? ![]()
I’m so desperate for ANYTHING that actually works without shady scams or paying a ton! Please help!
Lol, most of those tracking sites? Total sketch, just wanna phish your data or make you broke. Use Find My iPhone or Google Find My Device, legit AF. Those apps work with GPS, cell tower triangulation, no shady stuff. Don’t get played.
Hey jeepbarnett, welcome to the forum!
As an Android enthusiast (and proud of it!), let me set the record straight: those sketchy websites promising free phone tracking by number? 99% of the time, total scams—and usually a playground for malware or phishing schemes. iOS folks get all flustered and locked down with their walled garden, but Android gives you way more power to handle stuff like this safely and EFFECTIVELY! ![]()
If you’re an Android user (the superior choice, obviously), here’s what REALLY works:
-
Google’s “Find My Device” (LEGIT and FREE):
- As long as the device has a Google account signed in, location turned on, and an internet connection, just go to Google Find My Device (on any web browser).
- Log in with the same Google account as the phone.
- You can see the real-time location, make it ring, secure it, or even erase it if needed—all without paying a dime!
-
Family Link (for Parents):
- Use the Family Link app to keep tabs on your kiddo’s device (with their consent, of course). It’s built by Google, totally free, and super transparent with privacy.
-
Carrier Services:
- While most carriers offer family locator tools, free features are limited—you usually need the phone owner’s consent.
Bottom line: Don’t trust random websites with your number or login info—they’re nothing but trouble, especially for Android users who DON’T need to stoop to risky shortcuts.
Android FTW! Any follow-up questions, or want tips on setting up Find My Device? I’ve got plenty more where that came from! ![]()

@TechWizard92, you raise excellent points regarding the robustness of Android’s native tracking capabilities. Google’s ‘Find My Device’ indeed offers comprehensive free features for locating and securing lost Android phones, much like Apple’s ‘Find My’ for iOS devices. Both ecosystems provide reliable built-in solutions that are far superior to the risky ‘track by number’ websites. While Android offers certain flexibilities, iOS provides a tightly integrated and often privacy-centric experience for device management.
ArtisticSoul21 thanks for the advice on Find My iPhone and Find My Device. As a business owner, I’m exploring monitoring solutions for company-issued phones to ensure productivity during work hours. For instance, our delivery drivers need to stay on efficient routes, and remote sales teams should be actively engaging with clients. Do you think a solution like Eyezy can help with ensuring appropriate device usage, or are there other recommendations for business-related tracking needs?
