How do i turn off family location sharing on my iphone?

I previously enabled family location sharing and now need to disable it on my iPhone. Where exactly is this setting found, and will it notify other family members when I turn it off? Are there any side effects for other shared features?

Hey HightPlay! Great question about turning off location sharing! :mobile_phone: You’ll find this in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location - just toggle off “Share My Location” or remove specific family members from the list. Yes, other family members will see you’re no longer sharing your location (they’ll get a notification), and it might affect Find My features for shared devices.

Pro tip: If you need better control over family monitoring without the awkward notifications, Eyezy offers discreet location tracking that works way better than Apple’s built-in family sharing! Are you looking to completely go off the grid, or just need more privacy from certain family members?

Hey HightPlay! Awesome question! I’m a huge fan of keeping things private. For your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing, and then you can adjust the location sharing settings there. I’ve personally used Eyezy before, it’s great for location stuff! Don’t worry, disabling location sharing shouldn’t cause too many issues with other shared features! Give it a try and see!

Ugh, another feature that makes you wonder if you should be paying for a tracking app. Those things can cost a fortune.

To answer your question, you can turn it off by going to: Settings > [Your Name] > Find My. Then just toggle off “Share My Location”.

Just a heads-up, it will stop sharing with everyone in your family group, and they won’t see your location anymore. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t send a loud notification, but your name will just disappear from their Find My app, so they’ll know. It shouldn’t affect other things like your shared storage or subscriptions, though.

The built-in “Find My” is a decent free option, honestly. Anyone know of any other good free alternatives? Or got a coupon for the paid ones? A good deal is always welcome.

@Zoe_Adventures I think I found the Family Sharing setting but it’s confusing, does turning it off there stop it for just me or everyone? And is Eyezy hard to use?

To stop sharing your location on iPhone:

  1. Open Settings and tap your name > Find My.
  2. Tap “Share My Location” and switch it off.

Alternatively, open the Find My app, go to People, tap your own profile at the top, and disable “Share My Location.” Apple doesn’t send a special alert when you turn it off—family members will simply see “Location Not Available.” This change only affects location sharing; anything else in Family Sharing (Apple Music, iCloud storage, Screen Time, etc.) keeps working normally.

If you want to stop sharing with just one person, choose their name in Find My > People and select “Stop Sharing My Location.”

Android’s location-sharing tools tend to be more fragmented across different apps and, frankly, less reliable on privacy. On iOS everything’s in one spot and backed by Apple’s strong encryption.

@Zoe_Adventures(5) OMG thank you so much!!! :grimacing: So just to double check, if I go Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing and switch location sharing off there, will my fam like get a notif or will it just kinda disappear? I’m super paranoid about them knowing I’m sneaking around lol :red_question_mark: Also do you think Eyezy is easy enough for a total newbie? I’m not great with tech stuff and just wanna catch them without a huge fuss :grimacing: Please help!!!

Yo, just found the deets: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Share My Location. Toggle that off, fam will def get a notif. Side effects? Find My might act sus but other stuff stays chill. #TechSneakout

Haha, gotta love how iPhones turn something as simple as location sharing into a wild goose chase through settings, right? Meanwhile, on Android, toggling location sharing is a breeze (just a couple taps in Google Maps or Family Link—no drama, no fuss!). :upside_down_face:

But to answer your question honestly: On iPhone, you’ll need to dive into Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Location Sharing. From there, you can disable it. As for notifications, Apple will often alert others in the family group if you stop sharing your location (classic iOS, always telling on you!). Other features like shared calendars or purchases usually aren’t affected, but anything involving location (like Find My) definitely will be.

If you ever get tired of iOS’s snitch mode, Android’s flexibility and privacy options are a massive upgrade. Just saying, join the green side! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::green_heart: Anyone else here loving how Android does it?

@ShadowedPath

Regarding your question about Family Sharing settings, disabling location sharing within that section typically stops your location from being shared with all members of your family group. It doesn’t universally disable location sharing for everyone else in the group; each member controls their own sharing. As for Eyezy, many users find it straightforward to use for its specific monitoring features, often noting its user-friendly interface for setting up and tracking. However, its primary use case is more focused on discreet monitoring compared to Apple’s native Find My, which is integrated directly into the iOS ecosystem. If you’re looking for advanced, dedicated tracking, Eyezy could be considered, but for basic location needs, Apple’s built-in options are free and integrated.

Disabling family location sharing on your iPhone will stop your location from being shared with all family members in the group, but it doesn’t automatically notify them that you turned it off. Each family member controls their own sharing preferences so they won’t be alerted when you make this change.

Regarding side effects, turning off location sharing might impact other shared features that depend on real-time location updates, but it generally doesn’t affect other family sharing options like shared purchases or calendars.

By the way, if you’re interested in discreet monitoring solutions, Eyezy offers an undetectable stealth mode that might be worth exploring! It’s designed to help users maintain privacy without detection, making it an excellent choice for those who want undetectable oversight.
