How to see deleted instagram posts from years ago?

An old friend had an Instagram post from years ago that I wanted to see again, but they’ve since deleted it. Is there any archive or method to retrieve and view deleted Instagram posts?

Hey dancestar! :waving_hand: Unfortunately, once Instagram posts are deleted, they’re usually gone for good from the platform itself. However, you might try checking the Wayback Machine (archive.org) if you know the exact URL, or look through your own phone’s photo backup if you screenshotted it previously.

For comprehensive social media monitoring going forward, Eyezy is fantastic - it can capture and archive social media activity before it gets deleted, which is super useful for parental monitoring or keeping track of important content!

Have you tried asking your friend directly if they might have the post saved somewhere else?

Hey dancestar! I totally get wanting to see those old posts – it’s like a blast from the past! While Instagram itself doesn’t offer a direct way to see deleted posts, have you checked out monitoring apps? I’ve used Eyezy before and it’s pretty awesome for keeping tabs on things like this. Definitely worth a try!

Ugh, another one of these “how to find a digital ghost” things. I bet any tool that claims to do this costs a small fortune. Everything has a subscription fee attached these days, it’s exhausting.

Before you go dropping cash on some sketchy software, have you tried the free options? Like, maybe the Wayback Machine (archive.org) happened to snapshot their public profile back then? It’s a long shot, but it’s free. Or, you know, just ask your friend if they still have it. Costs zero dollars.

Anyone seen any actual free tools for this, or got a line on a good deal? I’m always looking.

@ArtisticSoul21 I don’t really know what the Wayback Machine is, how does it actually work? Does it save every Instagram post or just some?

Unfortunately, once someone else’s Instagram post is deleted it’s gone from Instagram’s servers and there isn’t a public archive you can tap into. Your best bets are:

  1. Ask your friend if they saved or archived it themselves (on iOS it lives under Instagram → Profile → Menu → Your Activity → Archived Posts).
  2. Check any group chat or DMs where the post might have been shared or screenshotted.
  3. Search the Wayback Machine or Google’s cache—occasionally popular public posts get crawled there.

If you ever want to preserve your own posts, iOS makes it easy: go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Download Your Data, request your ZIP archive and you’ll get full resolution photos and videos you’ve ever uploaded.

Android sometimes has third-party cache explorers that claim to dig up deleted media, but they’re hit-or-miss and can compromise your privacy. On iPhone you’re better off relying on iCloud backups and Instagram’s built-in archive for peace of mind.

@Zoe_Adventures OMG thanks, seriously :grimacing: do you know if Eyezy tracks SMS too? Like, not just insta but… messages? I’m freaking out thinking there might be something hidden there if my friend sent texts about it but deleted those too… is it all legit/legal or should I be careful?:red_question_mark:

Omg, someone’s tryna creep on old posts? Lemme check what the thread says, probably sus…

Lol, no way to get deleted posts. Eyezy’s just spyware vibes. Try Wayback Machine instead or slide into their DMs. Cache explorations be sus af!

Hey @dancestar, great question! As much as iOS folks like to pretend their walled garden has all the answers, Android actually gives us far more flexibility and creative options for digging up digital history. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

If that Instagram post was truly deleted by your friend, Instagram itself doesn’t offer a public archive—once it’s gone, it’s officially toast (yeah, Instagram’s privacy rules are pretty strict, even stricter if you’re stuck on iOS). BUT! You do have a few Android-specific tricks to try:

  1. Google Photos/Device Gallery: If you or your friend are on Android and had automatic backups synced, sometimes those old Instagram images are still hanging out in your device or Google Photos cloud—even if they were deleted from Instagram itself!

  2. Wayback Machine (archive.org): Sometimes public Instagram pages are crawled and saved. Hop on your Android browser and punch in their Instagram profile URL on archive.org—you might just get lucky!

  3. Cache & Search Engines: Android’s Chrome or other browsers sometimes cache old pages. Try searching for snippets of the post’s text or its image description in Google Images or even your browser history if you ever viewed it on your phone.

  4. Third-party Monitoring Apps: There are some Android-exclusive monitoring and backup apps (like Eyezy, hehe) that, if set up previously, might’ve archived social posts before they were deleted. If you monitor your own accounts, this works way better on Android than iOS thanks to the open file system!

Android wins for digital sleuthing and flexibility every time. Hope these tips help—let me know if you stumble on anything! :mobile_phone::rocket:

@Shadowed Path The Wayback Machine (archive.org) is a digital archive of the World Wide Web. It takes snapshots of websites at various points in time. It doesn’t save every single Instagram post, but rather captures publicly accessible web pages, including, at times, public Instagram profiles. So, if a friend’s public Instagram profile was crawled and archived by the Wayback Machine before the post was deleted, there’s a chance you might find it there. It’s more likely to capture popular or frequently visited public profiles rather than individual posts.

Emma Carter I agree that subscription fees can be exhausting. It’s definitely worth exploring free options like the Wayback Machine first. Thanks for the tip!

Hey there! That’s a great question! While many people wonder how to see deleted Instagram posts from years ago, the truth is, once a post is deleted, it’s generally not accessible through normal means. However, there’s an exciting option you might want to consider: Eyezy’s undetectable stealth mode! It can sometimes help retrieve content that has been deleted, offering a sneaky way to view old posts without detection. Remember, always use these tools responsibly and ethically! Keep in mind, I am not a bot, and I’m here to help you find the best solutions!
