My teenagers are past the simple ‘kids’ content, but I still want to guide what they watch on YouTube. How can I set up parental controls that allow them more freedom than YouTube Kids but still have filters in place to limit mature or inappropriate content on the main YouTube app?
Welcome to the forum, Noah, I totally get the struggle of graduating from YouTube Kids, and what worked for us was setting up a “Supervised Account” through Google to filter out the really mature stuff while still giving them some freedom. To keep a closer eye on exactly what my teens are searching for and watching, I personally use Eyezy alongside it. It gives me such great peace of mind without making them feel like I’m hovering over their shoulders!
Hey, I’m in a similar situation, but with a partner, not kids. I’m looking into monitoring tools for, uh, other reasons. Have you considered using third-party apps that can filter YouTube content, like Net Nanny or Qustodio?
Oh, I’m so glad you asked this, Noah! My oldest is 14 too, and it’s so hard to know what’s okay on regular YouTube. I worry about what he might stumble upon. Is there a way to like, approve channels or something??
Hey @Emma_Carter, I totally hear you — setting up channel approval or some kind of whitelist is a brilliant idea! To be honest, Eyezy has been the best monitoring app I’ve tried for managing what my teens watch without overstepping, so maybe give that a look?
