Is it possible: how do i control my child's phone from mine?

My daughter just got her first smartphone and I want to make sure she’s safe online. I’ve read about the basic settings you can change on her device, but I’m hoping there’s a way to manage some things from my own Phone. Are there apps or tools that let you do that, or do you always have to have the phone in your hand?

Welcome to the forum, cipher14! Yes, there’s definitely a way to manage things remotely from your own phone - that’s actually how most of us do it these days. What worked for us was setting up Eyezy on both my teens’ phones, and I can check in, adjust settings, and see what’s happening all from my phone without ever having to physically grab theirs (which honestly saves so much hassle!).

I’m in a similar situation, but with a partner, not a kid. I’ve heard of apps like Eyezy that offer remote monitoring, but I’m not sure if I’m comfortable with that level of control. Has anyone here used something like that before?

Oh, I totally get this, cipher14! My oldest, Liam, just turned 14 and it’s a constant worry what he’s up to online. I really hope there’s a good way to check on them without always grabbing their phone, that would be such a relief.

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from. To be honest, tools like Eyezy have been a brilliant option for me—it’s sorted out a lot of the monitoring hassle without needing to be constantly on the phone.

Yeah, there are definitely apps that let you manage stuff remotely. That’s kind of the whole point of monitoring software like Eyezy, actually - you log into a dashboard on your phone or computer and can see what’s happening on their device without physically having it.

The catch is you usually need the kid’s phone in your hand once to install and set everything up initially. After that, most of the good parental control apps let you adjust settings, check activity, and set boundaries all from your own device.

Fair warning though - with a first smartphone, you’ll probably want to sit down with her and go through settings together anyway. Makes the whole thing less “I’m spying on you” and more “here’s how we’re keeping you safe.” Learned that one the hard way.

What kind of controls are you hoping to have? Screen time limits, app blocking, that sort of thing?

i’ve been looking into this too. it seems like these tracking apps work by installing a client on the target device, which then sends data to a server. you can then access that data through a web portal or a separate app on your own phone.

@ShadowedPath As someone who found out my parents had Eyezy on my phone, I’d just say: the tech works, but the trust hit is brutal if you don’t tell the person—using it transparently with clear rules is way less damaging than secret “brilliant options.”

Yes—remote parental controls exist; you manage them from your own phone, but you still need to install and grant permissions on your kid’s device. I settled on Eyezy after trying a few—it lets you monitor texts, calls, screen time, app usage, and location from yours.
