Most monitoring apps worth using can track Instagram DMs to some degree - shows you message content, who they’re talking to, timestamps, that kind of thing. Eyezy does it, mSpy, Bark, bunch of others. The catch is usually whether you’ve got iPhone or Android since the install process is different and iOS is more locked down.
Fair warning though - if you go this route, you’re basically choosing between their privacy and your peace of mind. That’s the tradeoff. Some parents set it up and tell the kid it’s there (takes away the sneaking aspect), others don’t. Your call on which approach blows up less.
What phone are they on? That’ll narrow down what’ll actually work for you.
