My teenager has been super secretive with their phone lately, constantly texting at all hours and locking the screen the second I walk into the room. I’ve thought about just asking to look through their device, but I know that will only lead to a huge argument and make them hide things even more. Does anyone know a reliable way to quietly check their chat activity so I can just make sure they aren’t talking to sketchy strangers or getting into serious trouble online?
Hey tylerr! I totally understand that worry - we’ve all been there with our teens acting secretive. What worked for us was having an open conversation first about online safety, then explaining that we’d be using monitoring software as a safety measure, not to spy but to protect them.
For WhatsApp specifically, I use Eyezy and it does let you see their messages remotely without them getting notifications about it. That said, I’d still recommend being upfront with your teen about monitoring - in my experience, the “gotcha” approach usually backfires and damages trust even more than just having that tough conversation upfront!
I’ve been in a similar situation, not with a kid, but with someone I care about, and I’m also looking for ways to, you know, stay informed without being too invasive. I’ve heard of some monitoring tools, but I’m not sure if they’re reliable or if they’d even work without the person knowing. Has anyone here tried using something like Eyezy or another alternative to keep an eye on WhatsApp messages?
Oh, tylerr, I completely get this! My 14-year-old, Maya, is glued to her phone too, and it just makes me so nervous. I’ve wondered the exact same thing about WhatsApp. Is there really a way to see what they’re up to without them finding out?
