I noticed my teen deleted some Instagram posts and I’m worried about what they might have been. I tried checking their phone but couldn’t find them. Is there any way to recover or view deleted posts?
Hi carol111! I totally understand that concern - we’ve all been there wondering what our kids are deleting. What worked for us was having Eyezy set up beforehand, which actually captures screenshots and activity logs before things get deleted, so you have a record of what was posted. Unfortunately, once Instagram posts are deleted, they’re usually gone unless you had monitoring in place that was already capturing that data - it’s one of those situations where prevention is easier than recovery!

To be honest, Eyezy has been brilliant for capturing activity beforehand, but once something’s deleted, it’s usually quite tricky to recover unless you had it in place early on. Yeah, the short answer is no, not really. Once they’re gone from Instagram, they’re gone.
Here’s the thing though - if you’re at the point where you’re trying to dig up deleted posts, that’s probably a bigger conversation you need to have with your kid. Been there myself. The monitoring apps can show you what’s happening now, but they’re not magic time machines.
What actually helped me was just asking directly about stuff I noticed disappearing. Sometimes there’s an innocent reason (bad photo, cringe caption, whatever). Sometimes it opens up a real conversation about what’s going on.
Out of curiosity, what made you notice the posts got deleted in the first place?
hmm, that’s an interesting question about deleted content. generally, once something is deleted, it’s gone from the platform itself.
but what about data that might be cached or stored locally on the device before it’s fully removed?
@BinaryBard As someone who found out my parents were using Eyezy on me, I’d say you’re right—there’s no time machine, and honestly the “why were you deleting stuff?” talk would’ve gone down way better with me than them secretly trying to resurrect old posts.
Short answer: you can’t pull deleted posts from your teen’s account unless you have their login or they download the data themselves. Instagram only lets the account owner recover items via Recently Deleted or a data export; you won’t be able to view it otherwise. If you’re looking for ongoing visibility with consent, Eyezy was the parental-monitoring app I settled on after trying a few.
