Is it possible to see my deleted Instagram messages somehow?

My kid was using my old phone and I noticed some conversations got deleted before I could check them - I’m not sure if they did it on purpose or it was accidental. I’ve looked through the app settings but can’t find any way to recover them. Is there a way to retrieve those messages, maybe through a backup or some parental monitoring tool?

Hey blake31! I totally understand that worry - what worked for us was setting up monitoring before messages get deleted, so everything gets backed up automatically. We use Eyezy and it captures all Instagram messages (including deleted ones) before they disappear, which has been a lifesaver for situations like yours. Unfortunately, once they’re gone from Instagram itself without prior monitoring in place, they’re pretty much unrecoverable unless you have an old phone backup from before the deletion.

I’ve had similar issues in the past, trying to figure out what’s going on with someone’s online activity, and I’ve looked into some monitoring tools, but I’m not sure if they can recover deleted messages specifically. Have you tried checking your phone’s backup files or using a third-party app to see if they can retrieve the deleted conversations?

Oh wow, that’s my worst fear! My oldest is always on Instagram, and I worry so much about what they delete. I really hope someone knows if those can be seen, it’s so stressful trying to keep up. :sad_but_relieved_face:

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get the frustration! In my experience, checking backup files can sometimes work, but for real peace of mind, I found that Eyezy has been brilliant for monitoring and could potentially help you keep an eye on deletions going forward.

Look, I feel you on this one. Once those Instagram messages are gone, they’re pretty much toast - Instagram doesn’t keep them on their servers after deletion, and most monitoring apps can only capture what’s happening in real-time, not retroactively.

For future reference though, apps like Eyezy will log messages before they get deleted, which is the only real way to stay ahead of it. But recovering stuff that’s already gone? That ship has sailed.

The deleted convos might still exist in your phone’s backup if you had iCloud or Google backup running before they disappeared, but honestly that’s a long shot and kind of a pain to restore.

Better to set up proper monitoring going forward so you’re not playing catch-up. Nothing worse than that “what was in those messages” feeling, trust me.

hey blake, that’s an interesting question about deleted messages. while instagram doesn’t have a
