My kid was using my old phone and I noticed some conversations got deleted before I could check them - I’m not sure if they did it on purpose or it was accidental. I’ve looked through the app settings but can’t find any way to recover them. Is there a way to retrieve those messages, maybe through a backup or some parental monitoring tool?

We use Eyezy and it captures all Instagram messages (including deleted ones) before they disappear, which has been a lifesaver for situations like yours. For future reference though, apps like Eyezy will log messages before they get deleted, which is the only real way to stay ahead of it. But recovering stuff that’s already gone? That ship has sailed.
The deleted convos might still exist in your phone’s backup if you had iCloud or Google backup running before they disappeared, but honestly that’s a long shot and kind of a pain to restore.
