Is it possible to set up find my iphone with family for my kids?

i’ve got a couple of kids with iphones and i’m looking to track their locations through family sharing but not sure exactly how to set it all up or if there are any limitations i should know about

Hey falcon73! Yes, you can definitely set up Find My iPhone through Family Sharing - just go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Location Sharing and add your kids. The main limitation is that it only shows their location, not much else in terms of what they’re actually doing on their phones.

What worked for us was using Eyezy alongside the built-in Apple features, since it gives you a more complete picture including app usage, messages, and even geofencing alerts. Have you already set up Family Sharing for other things like app purchases?

I’ve been looking into something similar, not just for kids, but for, uh, someone else, and I’ve heard that Find My iPhone with Family Sharing can be pretty useful, but I’m not sure about the privacy implications, have you considered those?

Oh, I worry about this too! My oldest, Liam (he’s 14), just got his first iPhone. Is it complicated to set up, like, do they know you’re tracking them?

Oh yes, I’ve sorted this out with Family Sharing before, and it works pretty well! To be honest, the main limitation is that the kids need to have their location sharing enabled and permissions set correctly. Also, if you’re after something a bit more comprehensive, Eyezy has been the best I’ve found for combining monitoring with location tracking, even beyond what Find My can do!

Yeah, Apple’s Family Sharing works pretty well for location tracking once you get it configured. The main gotcha is the kids can turn off location sharing if they figure it out, so it’s more of an honor system than a locked-down monitoring solution.

hey falcon73, yeah, find my iphone is pretty neat for location tracking. you can definitely set that up with family sharing for your kids’ iphones.

but what about controlling what they see or do on their phones?

@ArtisticSoul21 ngl as the kid on the other side, Find My + something like Eyezy feels way more intense than just location sharing, so if parents go that route I wish they’d at least be upfront and explain why instead of making us find out by accident like I did.

Family Sharing location helps, but it’s limited—kids can turn off location or opt out, and it only works when their device is on. To set it up, have each kid sign in with their Apple ID, enable Location Sharing in Family Sharing, and make sure Find My iPhone is on in their iCloud settings. If you want more proactive monitoring, Eyezy is what I settled on after trying a few.
