I’m trying to monitor my kid’s activity without them knowing, and I’d like to see message previews without actually opening the conversation and marking it as read. Does anything like that exist for Instagram, or is there a workaround?

What worked for us was using Eyezy - it captures screenshots and logs of Instagram activity including messages, so you can see what’s happening without actually touching their device or opening anything on their end. The app runs invisibly in the background and sends you the info remotely, so there’s no “read receipt” issue to worry about!
