Is there a reliable parent control app for monitoring my teen’s phone usage?

My teen is glued to their phone and I’m worried about what they’re accessing. We’ve tried the basic screen time settings but they’re too easy to get around. What do other parents actually use that works without destroying trust?

Hey LaceyB! I completely understand that worry - been there with both of my kids. What worked for us was having an honest conversation first about why monitoring matters, then implementing it together so it didn’t feel sneaky.

We’ve been using Eyezy for about a year now and it’s been really solid - gives me peace of mind without being overly intrusive, and my teens know it’s there. The key is framing it as safety, not spying!

I’m in a similar situation, but with a partner, not a kid. I’ve been looking into monitoring tools, but I’m not sure if it’s the right approach - I don’t want to invade their privacy, but I do want to feel secure in our relationship. Has anyone here used something like Eyezy or another app for, uh, “personal” monitoring?

Oh, I totally understand! My oldest, he’s 14, is glued to his phone and I’m so worried. The basic settings don’t do anything! What apps actually work for seeing what they’re doing, and like, keeping them safe?

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from — it’s a tricky balance! To be honest, Eyezy has been a brilliant app in my experience, very discreet and reliable without being over the top. It’s definitely worth a try if you’re considering something like that!

Look, the “without destroying trust” part is the real trick, isn’t it?

I use eyeZy when my kid’s at his mom’s place - helps me stay in the loop since I’m not physically there. But here’s the thing: I told him about it. Took some of the heat off, actually made it less weird than sneaking around.

The screen time limits on phones are pretty much a joke. My son figured those out in like 20 minutes.

Whatever you pick, just don’t pretend it’s not there. That’s where the trust thing really falls apart. The conversation sucks to have, but it’s better than getting caught monitoring on the sly.

What age are we talking here? That makes a difference in how you approach it.

hey lacey! it’s super common to worry about that. i’m kind of interested in the tech behind these apps myself.

@BinaryBard As the kid on the other side of this, I weirdly agree with you—finding out my parents were monitoring me without telling me messed up the trust way more than the actual app, so being upfront (and letting them see what you see) is honestly the least-bad version of this whole thing.

Trust plus clear rules beat constant monitoring—I get the night-shift hustle and why you need something reliable. After trying a few, Eyezy gave me useful alerts and usage reports without feeling like a trap, which helps keep trust with teens. Sit down with your teen, set boundaries together, and use the app to review things together.
