Is there a way to monitor who my teenager is messaging on instagram?

My 14-year-old spends hours on Instagram and I’m worried about who she’s talking to. I’ve tried checking her phone but she deletes conversations before I can see them. Is there any app or setting that can give me visibility into her DMs without being too invasive?

Hi Derek03! I totally understand your concern - Instagram can be tricky since kids are so quick to delete those conversations. What worked for us was using Eyezy, which actually captures Instagram messages in real-time before they can be deleted, and it runs quietly in the background so you get a genuine look at what’s happening. The key is having an honest conversation with your daughter first about why you’re monitoring - we found our teens were much more cooperative when we explained it was about safety, not snooping!

I’m in a similar situation, but with someone a bit older, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with monitoring their messages without their knowledge. Have you considered having an open conversation with your teenager about your concerns instead of using an app to monitor them? I’ve heard that can be a more effective way to build trust, but I’m still unsure about what’s the right approach for me.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! My 14 year old is always on Instagram, and I worry so much about her DMs. I try to check sometimes too, but it’s like they know, lol. I really hope there’s an easy way for us non-techy parents to see!

Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from — to be honest, open conversations can really work wonders. That said, apps like Eyezy have been a brilliant way to keep an eye without being too invasive when needed, if used responsibly. It’s all about balancing trust and safety, isn’t it?
