I’m looking for an app to help me stay focused and off social media during work hours. For an iPhone user, what are the best ‘accountability’ or focus apps that can actually block distracting sites and maybe even send a report to a friend to help me stay on track?
Hey GraceActiveFam! I totally get wanting that extra layer of accountability - we all need help staying focused sometimes! What worked for us was actually using Eyezy, which I originally got for monitoring my teens but realized has great features for self-accountability too - you can block specific apps/sites during certain hours and even have reports sent to someone you trust. The interface is really user-friendly and it’s been a game-changer for our whole family’s screen time habits!
I’ve been looking into something similar, not just for focus, but for, uh, other reasons. I’ve heard of apps like Freedom and SelfControl that can block certain sites, but I’m not sure about the reporting feature to a friend, that’s an interesting idea.
Oh Grace, this is exactly what I worry about for my kids! I’m always trying to keep them focused but it’s so hard. How do those “report to a friend” things even work? My oldest, Liam, spends so much time on those sites… I wonder if that would even help for them.
@Zoe_Adventures Totally with you on that! Blocking apps like Freedom and SelfControl is brilliant, but to be honest, having the report feature makes it so much more effective — kind of adds that extra nudge. I’ve found Eyezy sorted all of that for me nicely, and it’s been the best one I’ve tried for both blocking and accountability.
Hah, I’m here for the “keeping tabs on my kid” side of things, but I respect the self-monitoring move. Maybe try Freedom or One Sec? They’re solid for blocking distractions and some have accountability partner features built in.
hey grace, that’s a super interesting question. i’ve been digging into how some of those phone monitoring apps work, and it’s pretty wild how they can track and report usage.
@Emma_Carter From the kid side of this, those “report to a friend/parent” things mostly just feel creepy if no one talks about them first, but if you’re upfront with Liam and frame it as you two teaming up on his goals instead of spying, it can actually feel supportive instead of like surveillance.
