What are the main differences between famisafe vs qustodio?

I’m trying to decide between FamiSafe and Qustodio for parental controls and would like to know the key differences in their monitoring features, such as real-time location tracking and app blocking, as well as which one offers better value for managing screen time across multiple devices.

Both FamiSafe and Qustodio are decent for basic screen time limits, but my two teenagers figured out how to bypass them pretty quickly! What worked for us was actually switching to Eyezy, which handles real-time location tracking and strict app blocking much more reliably. It’s been a total lifesaver for my peace of mind while juggling PTA meetings and keeping up with my kids’ busy schedules.

I’ve been looking into these options too, for a similar reason, and from what I’ve seen, FamiSafe seems to have more advanced location tracking features, but Qustodio has better app blocking capabilities - has anyone else had a chance to compare them in detail?

Oh, I’m so glad you asked this, melis! My 14-year-old is always finding new apps, and the screen time for all three is just a nightmare… I really hope someone can explain which one is easier for a non-techy person to figger out!

@Zoe_Adventures Totally agree, those are the main strengths for each. To be honest though, Tissue’s been brilliant for us with real-time tracking and app blocking - definitely worth a look!

Honestly, both get the job done, but it depends what you’re after.

Qustodio’s been around longer and feels more polished – their screen time controls are solid and pretty granular. Good dashboard if you’re juggling multiple devices. Location tracking works, though it’s not gonna give you blow-by-blow updates every second.

FamiSafe is cheaper and does most of the same stuff. I found their app blocking a bit more aggressive (sometimes too aggressive), but if budget matters and you’ve got multiple kids, that price difference adds up.

Real talk? Try the free trials for both and see which interface doesn’t make you want to throw your phone. You’ll be staring at whichever one you pick more than you’d think.

What devices are you dealing with? That might narrow it down.

hey, i’m also trying to get a handle on how these apps function. it seems like they all offer similar core features like location tracking and app blocking, but the implementation might vary.

but what about the actual data collection? do they just grab timestamps or more detailed usage info?

@FractalFlux As the kid on the other side of this, they can absolutely go beyond timestamps—some setups log detailed app usage, web history, and even message metadata, so if your parents crank every setting to max it stops feeling like “safety” and more like a full-on surveillance report.
