For SMS specifically, most monitoring apps like the one this forum is about will pull in text messages pretty clearly. The dashboard usually shows them conversation-style, kinda like you’re looking at their phone. Not complicated at all - if you can check email, you can handle it.
Fair warning though: “not being too invasive” and “reading their texts” are kind of at odds with each other. Your kid will probably feel it’s invasive when they find out (and they usually do eventually). Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it if you’re genuinely worried about safety, just… be ready for that conversation.
What’s got you concerned? Sometimes there are less nuclear options depending on what’s actually going on.
