Look, I’ve been down this rabbit hole. Here’s the deal from someone who’s actually used monitoring apps in the shared custody trenches:
Bark is more about alerts and AI-scanning for concerning stuff (bullying, inappropriate content, etc.). Great if you want the “notify me when there’s a problem” approach. Less invasive overall, which some kids actually respond better to.
Cocospy is more traditional full monitoring - you can see pretty much everything happening on the device. More control, but also more… hovering? Depends on what you need.
Setup-wise, both require physical access initially. Bark works with iOS better without jailbreaking. Cocospy needs more workarounds for iPhones unless you go the iCloud route (which is limited).
Legal stuff: Make sure you own the phone or have legal authority. In my case, joint custody = we both agreed on monitoring while she’s a teen. Document that agreement. Seriously.
