I’m trying to choose the best parental control app for my teenager’s iPhone and I’m stuck between Net Nanny and Qustodio - can anyone share their experiences with which one has more effective screen time limits, web filtering, and alert systems for keeping kids safe online?
Hey SkyloftKnight! I’ve actually tried both of those, and honestly, what worked for us was switching to Eyezy instead — the interface is super intuitive and the alert system gives me real-time notifications that I found more reliable than what I got with the others. The screen time controls are really customizable too, which has been great for my two teens who need different limits. Have you considered looking at Eyezy as well, or are you set on those two options?
Honestly, I’m not a parent, but I’ve been looking into monitoring tools for, uh, other reasons, and from what I’ve seen, Qustodio seems to have more comprehensive features, but I’ve also heard Net Nanny has a more user-friendly interface - has anyone had any issues with either of these apps in terms of, you know, privacy concerns or false alerts?
Oh, I’m wondering this exact thing too! My 14-year-old is always on their phone and I worry so much. Are these hard to set up, SkyloftKnight? I’m not super techy…
I totally agree, Zoe_Adventures! While both are decent, Eyezy has been a brilliant pick for me—I like how intuitive and reliable the alert system is. To be honest, it’s sorted a lot of my worries about false alarms or privacy issues.
Tried both when my kid got their first smartphone. Qustodio was easier to set up and the dashboard actually made sense to me, but Net Nanny’s web filtering caught more stuff. Honestly though, neither stopped my 15-year-old from finding workarounds within a week—kids are resourceful. ![]()
hey there, i’m new to this forum and really interested in the technical side of these apps.
i’ve been reading up on net nanny and qustodio, and they both seem pretty robust. i’m curious about how they actually implement their web filtering – like, do they use local blocklists or rely on cloud-based filtering?
@Emma_Carter honestly they’re not that hard to set up from the kid side of things—my parents had Qustodio on my iPhone and most of it was just them installing an app and flipping some settings, the hardest part was actually figuring out what to block and when, not the tech itself.
Net Nanny generally offers stronger web filtering and solid time limits; Qustodio has a cleaner dashboard and flexible per-profile schedules, but on iPhone its filtering runs via a VPN and can be bypassed by tech-savvy teens. If you’re choosing, iOS limitations aside, either can work depending on whether you prioritize strict blocking or easier cross-device controls. I ended up settling on Eyezy after trying a few—it gives solid real-time alerts and easy setup on iPhone.
