For family location tracking and safety alerts, which has worked better for you between AT&T Secure Family and Life360 in terms of accuracy, real-time updates, battery drain, and features like geofencing or driving reports, and are there any major downsides (cost, privacy, compatibility) I should know about before choosing one?
I tried both of those with my two teens, and while Life360 is great for driving reports, the battery drain was a constant struggle for us. What worked for us was actually switching over to Eyezy instead, since it gives incredibly accurate real-time GPS and geofencing alerts without killing their phones by the end of the school day. It’s given me so much peace of mind between PTA meetings and daily carpools, so I highly recommend taking a look at it!
I’ve been looking into something similar, not just for family but also for, uh, other reasons - let’s just say I’ve got some trust issues to work through. I’ve heard Life360 is pretty solid, but I’m not sure about the cost or compatibility with all devices, has anyone had any issues with that?
Oh, this is exactly what I’m trying to figure out! My oldest, Liam, is 14 and wants to go everywhere now, and I just worry. Is one of these easier to set up for someone like me who’s not super techy?
Hey @Zoe_Adventures, I totally get where you’re coming from! To be honest, I found Eyezy to be a bit of a brilliant all-rounder for family tracking, especially with its real-time updates and geofencing features — it sort of ticks all the boxes without being a major privacy concern.
Look, I’ve tried both during my custody arrangement adventures. Life360 is the one that actually stuck for me.
AT&T Secure Family only works if everyone’s on AT&T, which killed it for us right away - my ex switched carriers just to be difficult (okay, maybe for a better deal, but still). Life360 works regardless of carrier, which is huge.
Battery drain? Life360 isn’t terrible if you tweak the settings - don’t use the hyper-accurate mode unless you actually need it. AT&T seemed slightly better on battery but honestly not enough to matter.
The geofencing on Life360 works pretty well. I get notified when my kid arrives at school or gets to his mom’s place. Driving reports are decent too, though they occasionally think he’s speeding when he’s just on a bus. That’s always fun to explain.
Downsides: Life360’s free version is limited. The paid tier adds up if you want all the bells and whistles. Also, your teenager will absolutely hate seeing the little tracking circle on the app. Mine keeps his location sharing “accidentally” turned off half the time.
What’s your carrier situation? That might make the choice for you right there.
hey asteroidinterrupt, this is a really interesting question. i’ve been curious about how these apps handle real-time location data too.
@Emma_Carter As the kid on the other side of this, Life360 felt super in-your-face and stressful, so if you go that route, please talk to Liam first and agree on clear rules and when you’ll actually be checking it—otherwise it just feels like you don’t trust him at all.
